Profile / Experience

Philippa is highly experienced in family law including both divorce and the separation of cohabiting couples, especially in mid-high net worth cases.

Philippa joined Lanyon Bowdler as partner in May 2020 and is based at the Hereford office.

She deals largely with financial matters involving pensions, business assets and landed estates, and has a particular interest in the competing claims of third parties and other beneficial interests which often arise in farming cases, which is an area in which she specialises.

She is a member of Resolution and subscribes to their code of conduct, and therefore seeks to find solutions to the issues that often arise out of family breakdown in as amicable and constructive a manner as possible.

Philippa has been qualified since 1988 and was a partner in London until 2004 when she escaped to the Welsh Marches with her husband to be near the family (who are Welsh and West Midlands based) and to raise their own family (two teenage girls and accompanying adults).

She is a highly-respected voice in family law and has written a number of legal books, including the Lawpack’s DIY Separation and Divorce Guide. Philippa used to be a regular voice on BBC Radio 2’s Jeremy Vine show and can now often be heard on Sunshine Radio.

Philippa is named as one of the ‘Three Best Rated’ family law solicitors in Hereford, this can be viewed here.

Philippa is recognised as a Recommended Partner in the 2025 edition of the Legal 500 which states, ‘Philippa Pearson has a wide-ranging practice and advises clients from all over the country and overseas.’

Testimonials from the 2025 edition of the Legal 500:

‘Philippa Pearson – a pragmatic, thoughtful and exceptionally bright solicitor. Always pleased when I get an instruction from her.’

‘Philippa Pearson has a real talent for taking complex cases and cutting them down to size. This is best demonstrated in her ability to quickly identify the client needs and issues when it comes to farming cases – an area she excels at.’

The 2025 Chambers UK have ranked Philippa in Band 3. Philippa Pearson is highlighted for her ability to handle a wide spectrum of issues, ranging from complex financial matters involving landed estates to cases concerning allegations of abuse. The 2024 edition of Chambers UK states: “She is focused and very approachable.” The 2023 edition states ‘Philippa is very experienced in family law and she always makes herself available. She cares about her clients.’ It also mentions ‘She is professional and she has a determined drive to get the best result possible.’

Philippa loves singing and performing (but not in the court room) and is involved with HPA Fest each year organising poetry and drama for the children of the county.
