Types of Cancer Misdiagnosis Claims
Claims relating to misdiagnosed cancer can include a number of types of cancer, with the most common forms being breast, lung, cervical, ovarian, testicular and prostate cancer.
Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer found in women, and the success rate of any treatment is significantly higher if the condition is discovered early.
If the cancer is missed or misdiagnosed, treatment can be more difficult and the chance of recovery reduced. If you have had test results misinterpreted or something missed during an examination, you could be entitled to breast cancer misdiagnosis compensation.
Another common form of cancer amongst women is cervical cancer, which is treatable if detected early. Smear tests are crucial in diagnosing cervical cancer, but there have been numerous incidents of inaccurate smears leading to misdiagnosis.
A delay in diagnosis could mean you have grounds for a clinical negligence case, and our specialist medical negligence lawyers can advise you on the best way forward.
You should also seek legal advice if there were concerns about the treatment itself, such as whether enough tissue was removed to effect a cure, or whether unnecessary radical treatment was used which could to fertility problems.
The actual cause of ovarian cancer is unknown, but there are some factors which may increase the likelihood of diagnosis, such as:
- Having a family history of ovarian cancer
- Using hormone treatments or fertility drugs
- The risk of ovarian cancer increases as you grow older
- It is more common in women without children
Like other forms of cancer, early diagnosis is key to treating ovarian cancer, but there are many cases of misdiagnosis. If you think you have been misdiagnosed or not got the treatment you deserved, you could be able to claim compensation.
Prostate cancer is easily treatable if correctly diagnosed and caught early enough, with more than 90% of cases treated successfully.
However, there are still a small number of cases when medical professionals misdiagnose prostate cancer, and if you have been affected by clinical negligence, please get in touch to see how we can help.
