Security and Support for Life

As most people will appreciate when they are building their family, the last thing in the world you dream that you will be doing is planning a lawsuit against the NHS for life-changing injuries sustained by your child. It is a process we came to reluctantly, in part because, all the while, we were hoping against that everything would turn out ok, that no mistakes had been made and that we could just live out our family life with all the usual joys, aspirations and expectations.

When we finally made the decision to contact Lanyon Bowdler, we had to start coming to terms with an uncertain future, and were filled with apprehension, fear, regret, and a plethora of other emotions.

Then we sat down with Lucy, our appointed solicitor. And she listened, properly listened – patiently, calmly, sympathetically, before showing us the possible way forward. She warned us that it was a long haul, mainly due to the gathering of expert witness evidence for both sides, but we were encouraged that this would also inform our child’s therapy and support from an early point and into young adulthood and beyond. Lucy appointed a range of expert witnesses who were obviously specialists in their field, sympathetic to our child’s needs and sensitive to how she would experience the many assessments.

We had many contacts with Lucy and her colleagues over the years, and all were friendly, supportive and efficient. The appointed barrister had huge experience of similar cases and was able to navigate us through the labyrinthine process, answering our many questions and concerns with patience and compassionate professionalism.

I want to say that we have had a lucky outcome, in that our child now has security and support for life, but it wasn’t really luck – it was down to the professionalism and competency of the Lanyon Bowdler team, and we will be forever grateful.
