Profile / Experience

Neil is a partner and head of the Court of Protection Department. He specialises in Court of Protection work and mental capacity issues affecting both the older client and those who lack the capacity to manage their affairs due to personal injury or clinical negligence.

The team deals with a wide range of Court of Protection matters, including deputyships, the authorisation of gifts, property transactions and wills and contested powers of attorney, as well as an increasing number of health and welfare applications, advising individuals and care providers.

The team is also one of the very few in the region able to advise on the management of personal injury and clinical negligence awards and act as expert witnesses on Court of Protection costs. Neil also has a particular interest in the protection of vulnerable adults against financial abuse and has successfully acted in several complex cases resulting in the removal of deputies and attorneys.

Neil is a member of the Court of Protection Practitioners’ Association, the Professional Deputies Forum and the STEP Mental Capacity Special Interest Group and is a Full Accredited Member of the Association of Lifetime Lawyers, one of the most qualified lawyers in the country supporting older and vulnerable people.

Neil is recognised as a Next Generation Partner in the 2025 edition of the Legal 500 which states: ‘Neil Davies heads the team at Lanyon Bowdler, which is praised for its ‘hardworking attitude, and for being approachable and kind’. It continues to attract complex work across the UK with a range of contentious property and welfare cases. The department manages approximately 60 deputyships and trusts with assets in excess of £120m.’

Testimonials from the 2025 edition of the Legal 500:

‘Neil Davies is proactive, considerate and clear in his communication, he is easy to contact, always happy to consider new ideas and take part in resolving issues and complications along the way. Neil cares about the individuals involved, has his clients at the centre of his decisions.’

‘Neil Davies was a godsend in helping me apply for a Court of Protection order. He was patient. He is a very down to earth man who treats you with respect and kindness irrespective of your social standing or background.’

‘All of our dealings were with Neil Davies, who always responded to any queries promptly and explained events clearly. He was always professional and friendly and went above and beyond to help us.’

Neil joined Lanyon Bowdler in May 2014 from national law firm Linder Myers LLP. He originally attained an BA (Hons) in English & Drama before retraining and qualifying as a solicitor in 2005.
